Lucky You! Sally Jacobs is teaching Botanical Drawing/Watercolor at Brentwood Art Center this April

Botanical Drawing and Watercolor

Botanical art is a centuries old art form, originally used by naturalists to explain and document flora. Botanical work is quite separate from flower painting and landscapes, where the artist is free to interpret, change, and enhance the subject. In botanical art, the artist stays true to the plant, accurately communicating the structure and growth patterns.

In this class you’ll learn to draw and paint plants realistically and aesthetically, working with actual subjects. The drawing techniques focus on faithfully depicting form, value differences, and dimensionality. Drawing is an essential step before painting. In the watercolor sections of the class, you’ll practice color mixing, matching color, doing graduated washes, and adding detail.

Although it takes time to learn this approach, the journey is so pleasurable!
