About
Charlie Bloede received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with a Concentration in Printmaking from Kansas State University in 2023. During her time at Kansas State, she was awarded the Mark A. Chapman and Cheryl Mellenthin Fine Arts Scholarship and two Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Inquiry Undergraduate Research Scholarships. She has exhibited work in the Mark A. Chapman and Cheryl Mellenthin Fine Arts Scholarship Exhibition, the Kansas City Artists Coalition’s 2023 Undergraduate College Student Exhibition, the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art’s Undergraduate Juried Exhibition, the Bradbury Art Museums 2024 Juried Delta National Small Print Exhibition, and The Art Center’s 2024 Juried International Printmaking Exhibition. She has given an artist talk at the San Juan Islands Museum of Art and a student lightning talk at the 2022 Mid America Print Council Conference. Charlie worked as the Lead Youth Arts Instructor at the Manhattan Arts Center during college. After graduating, she completed an Artist Residency at Alchemy Art Center on San Juan Island in Washington. At the beginning of 2024, she completed a Winter Residency at Penland School of Craft. She is currently represented The Artist Gallery in Los Angeles and serves on the board for the Los Angeles Printmakers Society as Student Chair.
Artist Statement
My artworks is a mixed media practice including painting, drawing, sculpture, but focuses primarily on printmaking. I create hand carved woodblock prints and etchings. Color is generated in my work through experimental techniques such as abstract patterns on silkscreen, hand marbled paper, and viscosity printing. My imagery is focused on whimsical illustrations and scenes in nature.
