David Stewart Klein has continued to build his body of work in order to express both his humanity and the humanity of others through his portraiture and scenes of people through a fantastical yet grounded visual sensibility. Klein uses his artistic dynamic of blending sensitivity with tactile grit to create an intense visceral exhibition that will not leave your mind soon. In his fourth solo exhibition: They Look Back, Klein once again challenges our humanity by not only exposing himself through his characters but our sense of comfort and hope in a life that is continually challenging and uncertain for everyone in their own unique way.
Opening Reception is Saturday, May 14, 5 to 10 pm.
About Artist: David Stewart Klein’s work has been the need to express something strong, volatile, fragile, and fleeting. To him that can be the intimacy and vulnerability of a portrait, an argument from a couple, the silence between figures, the strength of an individual standing or the fluidity in motion.
Klein takes his subject and amplifies the compositional space with what is being represented, almost as a fragment of his mind and the people that inhabit the world around him.
