"The Art of Scale : XS-S-M-L-XL" explores the play of color and scale using a progression of canvas sizes. The paintings in this series are a study on the impact color and size have on the viewer. My curiosity and wonder invite you, as a viewer, into this dialogue.
The genesis of this show came from asking the following questions: Does color look different when on a small scale versus a large scale? Is the impact of something related to scale, i.e., both the elephant and the ant are God's creations, does one have more impact on the viewer than the other? Is beauty/majesty related to scale? Does one pull the attention away from the other? Can both exist equally beautiful and valued in the same time and place?
Throughout my process, I asked these questions and watched the answer evolve as I co-created these paintings with Spirit. "Yes, beauty can be found in everything, since out of God comes all things."
What we see is a reflection of who we are. We can only see in others what we hld inside ourselves. These truths have been a recurring theme in my art. Using this show, I ask the viewer to go deeper by suggesting that beauty can be found everywhere. And if that is true, then the viewer is beautiful. Is that something each person is willing to claim inside themselves?
This show is intended to be a touchstone to deepen in spiritually awakening and seeing the beauty that resides in all things no matter the size or scale.
About the Artist: Douglas Teiger graduated from Cornell University School of Architecture receiving a BArch and a Master’s Degree in Spiritual Psychology from University of Santa Monica.
His large abstract oil paintings radiate a sense of joy and serenity. His images come forward through meditation and inspiration. He co-creates with spirit transferring the energy through paint to the canvas. The dance has begun and what you see before you is a result of that relationship.
