A Movement Series opens July 7, 2021 at TAG Gallery, 5458 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036. TAG is open 1pm-7pm, Wed-Sun
All of the mediums through which I express myself as an artist are represented at this Tag Gallery show.
In part , my recent trip to Cape Town , South Africa has influenced this recent work in that I was privileged to have been able to work alongside new , younger African artists both male and female who constantly sought newness through their music videos, painting and sculpting.
Cape Town streets were empty and there was a sense of disquiet .The pandemic threat was an ever present intangible in every one’s lives. What emerged from this environment were paintings and sketches and sculptures of the human form that are sometimes more vivid and sometimes more expressionist .. always seeking to blend with an environment that was elusive in that it was constantly changing.
About the Artist: Emil Rutenberg, a South African born artist, settled in Los Angeles in 1983 where he established an eponymous fashion label under his creative direction. His innovative concepts gained a strong international following creating an attraction to fine art with his creative drive. Whether drawing, painting or sculpting, Emil Rutenberg expresses his unique perception of the human spirit through the human form.
“Emil’s sketches are a powerful and rich blending of skill with intuitive and spontaneous strength. His works exhibit a freshness, a beguiling charge, and are a pleasure to see.”
