My work is driven by a woman’s experience of deconstructive trauma. Through the process, one undergoes removal, radiation, expansion, sutures, implants, and transplants. She is sewn, screwed, stapled, and strapped; she is reconstructed, one intimate stitch at a time. Through clay, metal, textiles, and paint, I am rebuilding the female form.
About the Artist: Jennette Nearhood explores the idea of her own truth and the unfortunate truth for many women. Being diagnosed in 2008, her art creates an ordeal of a new beginning of a cathartic feeling. Nearhood uses the canvas as a place to delve deep into her psyche to expunge the pain, the chemicals, and the guilt of cells not functioning properly. “I did not realize the silence from my body was telling me to wake up.”
