There have been three sea-changes that resonate clearly within my being.
The first occurred millennia ago when a great wall of water swept the last remnants and inhabitants of Doggerland away and under the waves — scattering my ancestors around the North Sea rim and indelibly etching the event within our DNA. The second was the massive wave of immigrants from Germany in the mid 1800s that brought both my father and mother's families from the farmlands of Westfalen and Württemberg to the Missouri river lands west of St. Louis — forever altering the course of my German heritage from that of my cousins who stayed behind.
And lastly, a personal exploration of rebirth in the here and now — of embracing the history of my soul and letting it overtake me. A complicated single-themed visual story of family echoes broken into stations. In carefully choosing the word 'permitted' (the German 'erlaubte' = allowed), my meaning is that while the God of the title did not willfully cause of the deluge, by looking away he allows it to happen. While trained early on as a figurative draftsman; today, I choose to portray my thoughts in a non-representation style as to allow anyone from any background to find their own personal journey within the images.
