GIRL POWER #2

Oil and Oil Stick on Canvas, 20 X 16"

“My Portrait, Girl Power II, depicts a time when power was conferred through the divine right of kings. Thing have changed or have they? This piece evolved over multiple applications of oil paint, thick and thin, applied and removed, like the sands of time.” –Judy Zimbert

Up All Night

Ink, pastel, charcoal, acrylic on paper, 20x24”

"Remember the days when we could stay out all night? This charcoal and pastel drawing was done via Zoom of a seated woman dressed in a purple party dress, presumably from a previous night’s revelry.” –Elyse Wyman

April's Hair

Acrylic on Canvas 30X30”

I was inspired to paint mixed media artist April Bey with her full head of natural hair when I learned that she was raised in the Bahamian culture where black women were expected to straighten their hair. She reported that until she grew up, she had never actually seen her hair in its natural state.” –Betzi Stein

My Son

digital art on paper ed. 1 of 10, 11 in x10 in UNFRAMED

“During this pandemic, I had not seen my son in person for a long time. One day he dropped by for a few minutes. I was very happy to see his smile in person. When he smiles his eyes look like my beloved mother’s. She passed away in 2013. The image is about pandemic, my son and my mother." –Sunhee Joo

Archival print on paper ed. 1 of 3, 11 x 14”

“The idea of doing digital portraiture in a live setting has been a vision of mine for over fifteen years and I got to realize that dream at stARTup Art Fair 2019. I took weekend residence in a hotel room with full computer and lighting setup to create 20 ‘while you wait’ original artworks printed with archival materials.” –Karen Hochman Brown

Horus, the Paper God

Floating paper collage, insect pins, and fabric on canvas, 37 x 49 inches

“Horus, the Paper God, is a retelling of Queer mythology through contemporary media. Much of the ancient world's Queer history was hidden or suppressed from view. Each of the fine art objects in my Pantheon collection reexamines these old tales in visual form, illustrating the depth of Queerness within the human tradition.” –K Ryan Henisey

Meditation on a Bird's Nest

“Covered in real vines and leaves, she holds a real bird's nest with its petrified egg found in my yard. She's not a force of nature but one with nature as her soft face meditates in muted chalk and charcoal tones.” –Pam Douglas

“Life may be a series of choices, but art never was," explains artist Garo Ourfalian. "It is as basic a need as air and water.”

A self taught artist who moved to Los Angeles in his 20’s, Garo found a fertile ground for more inspiration in Southern California’s diversity.

Garo uses his practice as a means of understanding himself, human behavior, and social interactions. Shapes, symbols, and colors are key figures in his fine art.

“Every human interaction drives me to create symbolic art and images that penetrate the psyche behind action and behavior," says the artist. See more online >

Life is too Important to be Taken Seriously

Artist Michael Burnham challenges the notion that life is a constant burden. Instead he opts for humor and levity amongst the randomness and adversity of everyday life.

“Life Is Too Important To Be Taken Seriously” revels in the ‘burden’ of responsibility, and the incalculable possibilities of the everyday.
