I’ve always been intrigued by lush flowers, vibrant leaves, and exotic succulents. The variety of shapes and the striking colors have inspired these works. I have worked to capture the strength and grace of natures flowers, succulents, shadows cast on leaves. My intention is to highlight the beauty we pass by each day and may not notice.
While I consider myself a painter, I currently use a mixed media approach to photography. My images are printed on archival fine art paper and then hand embellished with color pencil. This approach allows for soften edges and a more painterly touch. The images are then mounted on painted wooden panels.
I feel a sense of balance at the intersection of art and the garden. The garden holds fond memories for me, having spent time there as a child with my grandfather. As an adult, I often found that being in and around nature has restorative and regenerative powers; color is emotion. Being outdoors even briefly, increases a sense of calm and comfort.
I love an explosion of color and line and repetition of pattern, both in nature and in my art. These are the influences of my artistic vision and the lens through which I see the world.
About the Artist: Rhonda Burtons imagery continues to intrigue, revolve around the beauty of the garden with the focus on color, repetition of pattern and texture taking center stage.
