About
Roger has always had a great love for the built world and things that man has made in context with natural conditions. Orchards, agricultural crops, terraced stone walls, fields, sheds and barns. The creation of beautiful places and things in the context of nature, light and shadow, have always resonated with him.
His art comes from this same place. First a broad concept, which is then defined into a structural design framework which gives power and life into the finished painting. In his work, you can see all of these elements at play.
Roger worked for over 40 years in Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture, designing the framework for a variety of large communities in California and around the world.
In addition to is professional work in the US, Roger was a planning consultant for Euro Disney in Paris and to several large land holdings in Indonesia.
He has a visionary view and the mind of one who loves to build something with a sense of place. The way he links together complex problems carries into his oil paintings where strong shapes and shadows structure the painting layout.
Roger earned his master’s degree in landscape architecture and regional planning from Harvard GSD, and his BA from California Polytechnic College, Pomona. He was elected Fellow in the American Society of Landscape Architecture in 1987.
Born in San Francisco, Roger now lives with his wife and family in Petaluma California where he maintains a studio.
