Artist Statement
“My early exposure to the original works of renaissance painters while living in Florence, Italy has been a major influence on my art. Inspired by these master artists, I strive to achieve a high degree of realism and craftsmanship in my own drawings and paintings however technical achievement is not my final goal. Just as the experiments of renaissance painters were redefining western art, I believe that 21st century artists should explore new subjects, materials, tools and technologies available today. Imagine what Leonardo would have done with a laptop!”
About Ernie Marjoram
Ernie Marjoram had an early interest in perspective drawing that led to a degree in architecture which included a year of study in Florence, Italy. Inspired by Italy’s rich cultural history Ernie returned to Los Angeles and practiced architecture for 15 years. During this time he traveled extensively to study the architecture of Europe, Japan and Egypt. Seeking a creative outlet for his intimate knowledge of historical styles and his interest in exotic cultures, in 1995 Ernie began designing and sketching sets for TV, film and themed environments for entertainment industry clients such as Walt Disney Imagineering.
Encouraged by the many fine artists working at WDI, Ernie began exhibiting his own personal art in 2003 and has participated in several group exhibits since then. He held his first solo exhibit “Europe, Asia and the US” in 2005 and followed up with a second one-man exhibit “Bell’ Italia” at the Ebell Club of Los Angeles in 2007. His oil painting Ponte Vecchio was included in the exclusive 2008 California Art Club Gold Medal Exhibition and his painting Shelter from the Storm recently won first place in the Ironstone Vineyards Spring Obsession Competition. Since 2009, Ernie has held annual art exhibitions at TAG Gallery.
Ernie also teaches design and perspective sketching to the Production Designers at the American Film Institute as well as drawing and storyboarding at Dodge Film School, Chapman University, Orange, Ca.
